PEOPLE with disabilities may have to take to the streets in the same numbers as older people to highlight the relentless cuts being made to their payments and services, the head of a national cross-disability organisation said yesterday.

THE administration of disability services within the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform has actively promoted the concept of independent living for people with disabilities and has delivered the necessary services on a rights-based principle.

FUNDING cutbacks targeted at citizens heretofore entitled to the special protection and care of the State are a sad reflection on our Government’s social inclusion policy and they also make a mockery of equality/disability legislation.

NOBODY in Ireland should have any issue with the role of the National Disability Authority (NDA) in monitoring the national disability strategy.
