South Wharf today reported losses of €1,280,000 for the first six months of 2006, compared to €800,000 for the same period last year.

It was a quiet morning on the Dublin stock exchange, with losses from major food companies offset by a strong performance from glassmaker South Wharf.

THE ISEQ Index performed strongly, closing up 119.95 at 7,646.81 despite fears that the European Central Bank will announce an interest rate rise today. The banking and construction stocks were the primary drivers yesterday.

The ISEQ soared 119.95 points to 7646.81 today following news that annual house price growth slowed from 14% in April to 6.2% in July.

Glassware company South Wharf plc has reported an increase in turnover of €300,000 to €1.2m.

The ISEQ climbed an impressive 67.87 points today to 7929.82, as most of the big names recorded gains.

SHARES in Dublin continued to rally mirroring trends across Europe and the US as the US Federal Reserve toned down warnings of further interest rate increases. The ISEQ index jumped 122.2 points to 7516.28.

ENTERPRISE Minister Micheál Martin has admitted there may be other legal loopholes by which private companies could obtain State-owned lands for a fraction of their real value.

SOUTH WHARF Plc is attempting to buy 25 acres of State land for a fraction of its price under a legal loophole.

The ISEQ index made a positive start to the week this morning adding 24.21 to 6622.25.

AN Oireachtas committee will this week be asked to probe a report that a company is availing of a legal loophole to acquire a State property valued at €300 million for less than €20m.

ISEQ-listed glassmaker South Wharf has announced €600,000 profits for 2004, down from €1.9m in 2003.

The ISEQ index closed down 61.21 points at 5984.88 this evening.

The Dublin stock exchange continued a week of losses today as it saw its overall price fall 11.79 points to 6,084.30, despite gains in the construction sector and by Icon PLC.

The ISEQ closed up 33.85 points today at 6789.63.

ISEQ-listed South Wharf today lost its High Court action against the refusal of Dublin Port Company to grant a change of use from glass manufacturing to port warehousing for its property in Ringsend.

South Wharf, the publicly-quoted glass company that spun off from Ardagh Glass, has announced pre-tax losses of €1.2m for the first half of the year.

South Wharf - the company remaining after the Ardagh glass business was demerged and taken private - has reported pre-tax losses of €1.2m for the first half of 2004.

On the day that the Government announced a falling exchequer deficit and the European Central Bank left its key interest rate unchanged, the ISEQ was up 1.55 at 5542.17.

Glass group Ardagh has narrowed trading losses for the year and announced it is to change its name to South Wharf.
