Dozens of Irish servicemen and women forgotten for decades after being buried in unmarked graves were finally remembered today at a poignant Armistice Day ceremony.

ON April 27, 1916, three days after Patrick Pearse stepped onto the portico of the General Post Office in Dublin to proclaim the new Irish Republic, 2,128 men of the 16th (Irish) Division suffered horrifically from a German gas attack.

Veteran soldiers from the North and the Republic have marched together at the first inspection on a UK parade ground by a representative of the Irish Defence Force, it emerged today.
