Saturday with Demi Isaac Oviawe: I go to lots of gigs — though sometimes I’m not one for crowds

I’m a Mallow girl till the day I die, but I have never been disappointed on a night out in Cork city, the food is excellent.

Since I was 18, I’ve always worked on a Saturday but now I’m working Monday to Friday on Afternoons on 2FM, so, for the last nine months I’ve had Saturdays off.

I nearly have too much time on my hands and don’t know what to do with myself. I’ll still be up at around 8am or 9am though – my body is tuned to waking up at 8am for work. I’ll let my dog Rosie out to pee and then I have a cup of green tea under the pergola and chat to my sister who is five going on 15.

12.00

I try not to have too many coffees throughout the day so I’ll wait till about 12 or 1pm for my first coffee. I don’t like to eat first thing either so I’ll have eggs or porridge a little later on. I do love a cold bowl of cereal on a Saturday morning though – it reminds me of the Saturday mornings of my childhood eating cereal in front of the telly.

I’m getting really into fitness again so I’ve been going to the gym and for walks – anything from 5km to 8kms. It’s mad how many friends I get to see over the weekends now – I can see a friend every two hours. Because I’m trying to lose weight I’ll eat before I meet people, otherwise I’ll be tempted to have cakes or scones. I’m living in Mallow and my boyfriend’s in Tipperary so I’ll go to see him most weekends or he’ll come to see me.

13.00

I’ll do what I call my ‘Saturday reset’. This involves doing my washing and getting my stuff organised. I like to think I’m really grown up and I’m really not, but I have to get organised or my life will be upside down.

At the age of 25 I’m in this transition period – I want to prove to my mum that I’m grown up but if I get a red wine stain on my jumper I’ll still have to bring it to her or my grandmother to sort out.

I might plan dinner. I’ll do my own healthy meal plan but we have a family group chat so I’ll ask people what they’d like to eat, it could be spaghetti bolognese or something Nigerian. Whatever they want.

I’m really very helpful although my mother might not agree... if you do too much everyone expects it, so I only do it once in a while! I really pull out the stops when my boyfriend comes around – I’ll cook and clean to show him I’m real wife material. He can propose any day now, I’m ready!

16.00

There’s a beautiful river walk in Mallow so I’ll take the dog for a walk and I’ll touch grass as the kids like to say. She’s a very peculiar dog. She just about likes us and you wouldn’t know what way she’ll go if people go to pet her – she could wet herself or growl. She has an obsession with rocks and stones. Again, peculiar.

19.00

In Mallow, The Arches is a really nice place to have some grub. Sometimes we’ll go into Cork city where there is an endless choice of places to eat – the city is packed on a Saturday night so if you haven’t booked you’ll be hoping and praying for a spot somewhere.

I’ve often gotten the train into the Marina Market, gone for a wander out to Blackrock and then off somewhere for a drink.

I’m a Mallow girl till the day I die, but I have never been disappointed on a night out in Cork city, the food is excellent.

Myself and my boyfriend Dylan are trying to do as many things as we can this summer. We recently went to the Zach Bryan concert and we’ve been to the cinema, lavender fields and an escape room in the past few weeks.

Because I’m with 2FM it means that I get to go to lots of great gigs – though sometimes I don’t go because I’m not one for crowds. As much as I love meeting people, I’m actually quite a nervous person. I try to go to as many gigs as I can if I know my friends are going to be there, but if not, I tend to prefer more intimate things.

21.00

If I’m staying in, I love a good games night because I’m very competitive. I love Mafia and Herd Mentality. One of my goals is to host a games night for strangers – it’s so much fun.

Albert Lynch’s in Mallow is one of my favourite pubs because it has games that you can play with your friends while having a drink.

01.00

I’ll usually be asleep by around 12.30 or 1am but if I’m out then God only knows what time I’ll be in bed. I usually sleep well – I could sleep through a storm.

I love reading. I’ve just finished the Empyrean Series by Rebecca Yarros, it’s one of the best series I’ve read in a long time. If Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games had a child, this is what it would be.
