The ISPCC is encouraging us to experience the restorative power of sea swimming this September and raise much-needed funds for Childline, its 24-hour support line. Hundreds took on its September Sea Swim challenge last year, and the charity hopes that even more will do the same this year.

Here’s how you do it. When you visit septemberseaswim.com, sign up for 10 sea swims in September. Childline will then send you a sea swim digital pack, which includes a swim chart, a swim checklist that outlines how to swim safely and a September Sea Swim sponsorship card.

The next step is sharing your fundraising page on social media and email and asking your friends and family to donate.

You can undertake this challenge solo or with a group of friends. It’s likely to boost your mental and physical health, and all funds raised will go directly to Childline, the free support line that is open to young people all day, every day throughout the year and can be accessed by calling 1800 666666 or chatting online at childline.ie

Cannonball 2024 coming to town

The action-packed supercar spectacle that is Cannonball 2024 is coming to towns across Ireland from September 6 to 8.

Cannonball is the largest organised road trip in Europe. It features some of the most expensive and awe-inspiring cars on the planet, including McLaren, Maserati, and the brand-new Lamborghini Revuelto, which will be unveiled in Ireland for the first time.

This year’s event will involve the cars travelling in convoy through Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway, Leitrim and Meath, with free family festivals being organised at pitstops along the way.

These festivals will give families a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the most sought-after supercars and enjoy Brazilian dancers, live music and the carnival atmosphere of Cannonball.

Every year, Cannonball raises funds for Irish children’s charities.

This year’s chosen charity is the Jack and Jill Foundation, which supports 416 families in Ireland caring for children with complex medical needs by providing them with in-house nursing care and respite.

Hard-wearing natural cotton clothing

Mum of two, Siobhán Leigh wanted her children to wear natural fabrics and timeless patterns but found it difficult to find such clothes.

In 2018, she sat down at her kitchen table in Mayo to handmake clothing for her two young daughters.
Before long, other parents began to ask where she was sourcing her clothes and that’s how the company whiterosecreations.com was born.

Her collection now consists of dresses, t-shirts, dribblers, jumpers, and hoodies, all of which are made from natural cotton and jersey fabrics and
designed to be hard-wearing. Leigh likes to accessorise and customise, so if you want to add your own twist to an item, all you need to do is ask.

Prices start from €8 for heavy cloth dribblers and €22.95 for these colourful harem pants.

School memories

A child’s first day at school is worth celebrating, and these personalised cards are a great way to mark the occasion.

Produced by Catherine Keegan, the Dublin-based designer and mum of two behind Imprint Illustrations, these cards feature cute school accessories and can be customised to include the child’s name, the date of their first day at school and the name of their school. The inside is left blank so that you can write your own encouraging message to little ones taking their first step on their
educational journey.

This card will surely become a memento of a big day in every child’s life. It costs €5.25 and can be purchased from etsy.com/ie/shop/ImprintIllustration
