Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

The whiskey

In 2014, the first distillation in Connacht in over a century took place at The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim. And over a decade of family distilling later, it launches Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey.

The rare release of just 3,000 individually numbered bottles is triple-distilled under the watchful eye of head distiller Brian Taft, with Irish malted barley, barley and Irish barra oats at The Shed Distillery, with no artificial flavouring or colouring. Twice ranked one of the top 20 whiskeys in the world by Whisky Advocate, Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has won multiple prestigious international awards and Best Whiskey titles since its inaugural 2017 release. Limited edition, €89.

The luxury piece

This summer, Boodles is marking 20 years in Dublin — the luxury brand’s first and only overseas boutique. To mark the milestone, Boodles is partnering with Hillsborough Castle to launch Lady Alice’s Temple, a piece inspired by the building itself and part of the Palace collection.

Meanwhile, Boodles flagship showroom is moving in September from 178 New Bond Street to 23 Old Bond Street. The new Boodles Townhouse will also be a space for entertaining.

The new opening

Recently, we’ve been dreaming of nipping over to London for some Humble Crumble, or maybe Rome for any number of the well-regarded gelaterias. Happily, our cravings may well be answered in the heart of Limerick city. Alan Andrews, the businessman behind Birdhill’s The Old Barracks Coffee Roasters and Cork’s GUJI Coffee in the Marina Market has just opened his latest venture, Grumble. Pairing Italian gelato with warm, crumble, alongside crepes and milkshakes, this is sure to be a busy spot over the next few weeks.

The free festival

On May 23 and 24, Smithfield Square in Dublin hosts a free, family-friendly event celebrating the life and legacy of one of Dublin’s most iconic voices. A favourite in the cultural calendar, this year’s Luke Kelly festival continues to honour the influential Dubliner, through a free programme of contemporary voices, traditional music and community storytelling.

Highlights include R&B singer and Sherriff Street-native Gemma Dunleavy and The Dubliners Encore, the acclaimed official stage show celebrating the music of The Dubliners. Elsewhere, you’ll find Dublin ballads at the O’Donoghue’s Tent, an engaging programme of talks and workshops exploring music, culture and heritage, and two special screenings at the nearby Lighthouse Cinema.
