He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: âI want to honour our President Joe Biden. He has served our nation admirably for decades, he is a decent honorable man, a hugely successful president, and a patriot. Now let us unite behind Kamala Harris and defeat Donald Trump in November!â
Freaky Friday actress Jamie Lee Curtis said the vice president was âtrusted and testedâ.
In a post to Instagram she said: âI support wholeheartedly @joebiden and his decision to step down and to endorse unreservedly @kamalaharris.

âItâs a womanâs world, and youâre lucky to be living in it,â she sang in a video posted on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Hocus Pocus star Bette Midler called Mr Biden a âtrue American patriotâ, writing on X: âHeâs been a fantastic President, and it hurts that the circumstances have been so unique and historic that he was obliged to drop out. He is the rarest of politicians, a decent man who lived by his values.â
She also called Republican presidential nominee Mr Trump a âschmuckâ for his response to Mr Bidenâs announcement, in which he called Mr Biden âthe worstâ president in US history.
Midler said: âSo of course, the ever gracious Trump gives Biden another kick with his hobnailed boot as Biden steps down: âJoe Biden was the worst president in historyââŠbut as we all know, with DJT, every accusation is a confession. Thanks for the confirmation, schmuck!â
US talk show host and comedian Jon Stewart reacted with a simple, one-word post to X shortly after the Presidentâs announcement.
âLegend,â he wrote.
In a post to X, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, 72, said: âJoe Biden has a record of accomplishments unmatched by any president in our lifetime.

A number of celebrities, including long-time Democrat George Clooney, had called for Mr Biden to drop out of the race days after his debate against former president Mr Trump last month in which he gave a string of nonsensical answers.
In a social media post, Hamill said that âone off nightâ did not âchange the fact that Joe Biden is the most legislatively successfulâ president âin our lifetimeâ.
Oceanâs Eleven star Clooney, however, said in a New York Times opinion piece that the party would lose the presidential race as well as any control in Congress with him as the nominee.
