Comedian Billy Connolly has revealed how his battle with Parkinson’s disease has pushed him to pen a series of letters to his grandchildren.

The 72-year-old, who is a father of five from two marriages, told the Sunday People that he wanted to share his love for the world with them and doesn’t expect they’ll open them till after he dies.

'I still write with a fountain pen. I've been writing to my grandchildren (Walter,14, and Barbara, 12) since they were born, long before they could read,' he said.

'They haven't read the letters yet. They probably won't read them until I'm dead. But I was saying to my daughter maybe they won't be able to read cursive with the ways things are going.'

Connolly unfortunately had to stop playing his banjo because of his Parkinson's but said he would never give up performing stand-up.
