Cian Ducrot 'home' as fans don ponchos for Cork concert

Fans of Cork pop sensation Cian Ducrot flocked to Musgrave Park for the venue’s penultimate show of the summer.

The ‘I’ll Be Waiting’ singer has had a wild 18 months from supporting Ed Sheeran in Dublin in March last year and Dermot Kennedy in Thomond Park in Limerick last July, as well as entertaining the masses at his own headline shows across Europe since.

The Passage West man rose to fame when his 2022 single ‘All For You’ gained popularity on TikTok, and his success since has proven he’s here to stay.

His debut album Victory has since soared to the top of the album chart in both Ireland and Britain.

Fans of all ages were in fine spirits despite the damp weather as they walked, skipped and danced towards the Tramore Road venue on Friday evening.

As a steady rain fell, the most popular fashion accessory on show was the purple Childline poncho.

Cork man Darren Kiely opened the show and Co Down’s Foy Vance warmed the damp and cold crowd up before the main event.

Ducrot was met with a loud cheer when he ran on stage and Cork flags and an impressive “I heart Cian” banner were proudly displayed in the crowd.

Appropriately, his opening song was an unreleased track called 'I’m Coming Home', which really captured the feeling within the stadium as proud locals watched one of their own strut the boards on stage.

He proudly shouted “I’m home” at the end of the song.

One of his most known songs 'Heaven', shortly followed and was met with a loud cheer as the instrumental hit and the title track of his debut album Victory followed suit.

Before Ducrot sang his hit song ‘How Do You Know’, he removed his coat and proudly showed his Cork GAA jersey, which was met with a loud bang of admiration from the crowd.

Ducrot was in flying form, telling the crowd about "the absolute fucking pleasure to be home and see all these beautiful faces".

“I love you so much and I’m having the most fun of my entire life. I hope you have an incredible night, because I will,” he said.

Rebel singers The Wolfe Tones will conclude the 2024 gig season at Musgrave Park on Saturday.

For Ducrot, the Musgrave Park gig was the final leg of his Irish tour which brought him to St Anne’s in Dublin and Sea Sessions in Bundoran, Co Donegal.

Next, he will support pop star Jess Glynne at Bedford Summer Sessions in Britain on Sunday.
