STREAMING:

The Greatest Night in Pop

Netflix, from Monday

In 1985, a supergroup consisting of the likes of Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper gathered under the banner of USA for Africa to record ‘We Are the World’, America's answer to the ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’ charity record. It’s not clear why the documentary isn’t about the first song and the Bob Geldof-organised event. Anyway, it's an intriguing story that begins with a call from Harry Belafonte, who came up with the initial idea. Previously unseen footage brings the story to life, revealing how the performers, as well as producer Quincy Jones, were persuaded to take part.

Black Cake

Disney+, from Wednesday

Oprah Winfrey is among the executive producers of this eight-part drama, which is based on Charmaine Wilkerson's 2022 debut novel of the same name. The story takes place across two linked timelines — the first is in the late 1960s and follows a runaway bride who disappears off the Jamaican coast, feared dead. The second happens 50 years later as a dead woman's estranged children learn the shocking truth about their family. Chipo Chung, Mia Isaac and Adrienne Warren star.

Mr & Mrs Smith

Prime Video, from Friday

TV spin-off of the 2005 film. While making the film Mr & Mrs Smith, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met and fell in love. Their subsequent relationship gave the movie some notoriety, although the then-couple failed to get a sequel off the ground. In this, lonely strangers join a mysterious spy agency, and are ordered to pose as man and wife. Each episode sees them tackle a different case, alongside guest stars including Sharon Horgan, Michaela Coel and Alexander Skarsgard.
