Food blogger, Jolene Cox, loves sharing her cooking tips on her blog, OneYummyMummy.com, and she has published her first cookbook.
“I’m a mother and an avid home cook, with a passion to make home-cooking the new convenience,” she says.
Jolene says finding a publisher has been the highlight of her blogging career.
“I was given the green light twice and then got let down at the last minute. It was crushing, but I picked myself up and kept going. Orpen Press was the third publisher I contacted and they have been behind me from the start.”
Social media has been a factor in her success.
“When I first started the blog, I had one or two cheering me on, on the sidelines, but with the power of social media, it grew and grew and now it feels like an army of encouragement cheering me on.”
While she loves using Instagram, Jolene says she enjoys chatting with other mothers on Facebook.
“I love Instagram, when it comes to food photography, and Facebook is where I get my most real interaction from real mothers.
“I also have a Homecooks Ireland Facebook group, which is a hub of meal-planning and recipe-sharing. Four other home cooks help me run it and it’s such a positive space to hang out.”
Jolene has brought over two decades of experience cooking for families to her blog.
“I’ve been cooking for families for almost 20 years, starting out as a live-in nanny in my late teens, so I’ve quite a few tricks up my sleeve, when it comes to fussy eaters, and quite a few clean plate classics, when it comes to recipes.”
Her recipes for fussy eatersplease parents, who contact her through social media.
“What I enjoy most is receiving photos of parents of little fussy eaters eating my recipes.”
Jolene has made many friends through blogging and says the best bloggers are the ones who are not afraid of hard work.
“I think parenting blogging is so encouraging, as we are all parents and we’ve lived and want to see each other do well.
“Blogging is hard work, and it’s not the perception you see of #LivingYourBestLife or getting a shed load of free stuff.”
She advises aspiring bloggers to follow their passions and stay honest.
“Do it because your passionate about what you do. Followers see the truth, they believe the truth. Always do it with integrity and honesty,” she says.
One Yummy Mummy: Family Food Made Easy will be published in September.
