Cork weather and traffic: Queues building on N28 and elsewhere, rain expected

Traffic delays seen building early on a number of commuter routes this morning, with reports of a number of collisions

Breezy weather with persistent outbreaks of rain and drizzle will dominate Thursday as Met Éireann says temperatures of between 16C to 18C are in store. 

It will stay cloudy later on Thursday night with more outbreaks of rain and drizzle before the rain turns patchier later, and becomes confined to east and south Munster by the morning. Temperatures as low as 10C are expected for the night. 

Friday then will be cloudy with some drizzle still lingering in the south and east of the province before it starts to clear in the afternoon to give sunny spells and scattered showers. Highs of between 14C to 17C are set for the day.

It will stay dry later in the night with clear spells, but scattered showers will continue in the west and northwest with lows of 9C to 13C. 

Traffic

The N28 is seeing delays early enough on Thursday morning, between Harbour Heights and Carr's Hill. There are reports of a collision between Carrigaline and Ringaskiddy, on the R613 Church Road near Coolmore Cross, and Shanbally is seeing tailbacks and delays as of 7.15am.

Separately, the N71 coming in from Bandon is starting to see congestion, while parts of the city and the N40 are seeing similar. There are also reports of a collision near the junction of Great William O'Brien St and North Monastery Road in Blackpool. 

Outlook

Dry and bright weather will take over Saturday as the national forecaster says sunny spells and scattered showers are expected. More frequent showers will come in from the west and northwest later, with highs of 15C to 19C. 

Clear spells and scattered showers will dominate Saturday night before cloud starts to increase overnight, bringing rain in the western and southern areas. Lows of between 10C to 14C are set for the night. 

Sunday will be generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain, some possibly turning heavy. It will then start to clear to give scattered showers and sunny spells by evening. Highs of 14C to 18C are in store.

Looking at next week, Monday will be a drier and brighter day with sunny spells and isolated showers. Highs of 15C to 18C are expected with some fresh winds.
