ON November 4, 2008, Barack Obama became the 44th President Elect of The United States of America. That same evening, I became a statistic: The one-in-five; approaching 13 weeks I had miscarried my first child.

As long as I can remember, I had never expressed a desire to become a mother. To say otherwise would be a lie.
