The 'Singing Nun' wins Italian version of 'The Voice'

The nun who became an internet sensation after her audition went viral has won the Italian version of the Voice.

Sister Cristina Scuccia, dressed in her traditional habit, black shoes and crucifix took 62% of the audience vote. She wins a recording contract with Universal.

The 25-year-old nun from Milan broke into prayer on stage after taking home the top prize in the singing contest, thanking God for her victory.

Sister Cristina says she believes her songs express "the beauty of God".

"My presence here is not up to me, it's thanks to the man upstairs," she said after being declared the show's winner.

"I'm not here to start a career but because I want to impart a message."

The young nun became the unlikely frontrunner after performing songs as diverse as 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper and Bon Jovi's 'Living On A Prayer'. She also had the chance to sing with Ricky Martin and Kylie Minogue on the show.

Sister Cristina surprised everyone - especially the judges - at her first audition when she gave an amazing performance of 'No One' by Alicia Keys. The video has been viewed over 50 million times. With her sister nuns backstage, she told the judges that she wanted to share her talent with the world.

" I have a gift and I am giving it to you".

Sister Cristina has hinted that a music career may not be for her, saying that she might prefer to return to her old life in her community in Milan, singing with young people in church.

"I will continue to sing wherever the Lord wants", she said.
