Cocaine found in Houston's hotel room

Cocaine was found in the hotel room where Whitney Houston died.

Authorities investigating the singer's death last month reportedly recorded "white, powdery remnants", and sources confirmed to gossip website TMZ that tests showed it was the drug.

It had previously been claimed that investigating officers had found no illegal substances in the suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel, but the source insisted they were unaware of the discovery at the time.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed the drug had contributed the singer's death, with the cause listed as accidental drowning due to the effects of heart disease and cocaine use.

Cocaine was found in her system as were traces of marijuana, Xanax, Flexeril and Benadryl although they did not contribute to her tragic passing.

A source connected to the investigation said at the time it was "very possible" Whitney - whose body was discovered in the bathtub - had a heart attack that caused her to lose consciousness and drown. The heart attack may have been triggered by hardening of the arteries as a result of cocaine use.

The coroner also noted that neither foul play nor trauma factored into her demise.
