Actor Ryan O’Neal’s son Redmond was sent to jail in Southern California following a drugs arrest and hours later his brother was taken to hospital after a car crash.
Sgt Richard Lewis of Santa Monica police said Redmond O’Neal was pulled over at about 8.30am yesterday after an officer saw him fail to stop at a red light. A search of his car uncovered heroin, he said.
O’Neal, 26, who is on probation over a previous drug case, was not given bail.
His lawyer, Richard Pintal, declined to comment.
O’Neal, the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, has a history of substance abuse problems. He completed a drug diversion programme last year but remains on probation for taking drugs to a Los Angeles County jail in 2009.
It later emerged that Griffin O’Neal, 46, was taken to hospital after a collision in San Diego County.
San Diego police sergeant David Jennings said Griffin O’Neal was behind the wheel of a car in San Pasqual Valley Road in Escondido yesterday afternoon, when he veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
Sgt Jennings said O’Neal complained of pain and was taken to Palomar Medical Centre.
Hospital spokeswoman Bobette Brown said he was discharged later.
Sgt Jennings did not know the condition of the other driver.
