'I am Number Four' a hum-drum sci-fi

Director: D.J. Caruso

Cast: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Kevin Durand, Dianna Agron, Teresa Palmer

Cert: 12

A case of looting and pillaging through many of the previous sci-fi stories and films that yields precious little by way of originality, even though this film is based around a successful graphic novel.

Pettyfer is a young actor who has the blonde, rugged good looks that appeal to the female teens market but we must hold out for signs that he will become a performer of more solid substance.

Here, he fits the bill, but no more or less than the basics as John, a teen with a mysterious past – he’s an alien out to save the world from evil space roamers with murder in mind – who hides his identity as your average high school student.

His mission means he must travel around accompanied by his guardian Henri (Olyphant) in order to avoid the baddies.

Agron shows up, fetchingly it has to be said, as his love interest.

The title refers to John being the fourth in line after three previous victims have been seen off.

Ho-Hum!
