Flatley to reprise dance role for 'victory lap'

'Lord Of The Dance' creator Michael Flatley announced today he will reprise his role in the show for the first time in 12 years – and called it a “victory lap”.

The fleet-footed star, who made a fortune from the show, will perform in Ireland, the UK and Europe later this year.

'Lord Of The Dance' has played to more than 60 million people in excess of 60 countries over the past 14 years, although he retired from the show in 1998.

Flatley will be joined by a 40-strong cast, some of whom performed with the show when it debuted.

He said: “I am very excited to dance again. I’ve created many shows but 'Lord Of The Dance' has a special place in my heart.”

Flatley recently completed a successful tour of Taiwan with his show 'Feet Of Flames' which saw up to five standing ovations at performances.

'Lord Of The Dance' evolved from his work on 'Riverdance' and became a phenomenon in the 1990s.

He added: “It will be different this time around. I’ve achieved my success and I’m proud of what I’ve done, this is like a victory lap.

“This time is for my loyal fans who have been there from the beginning.”

His opening show will be at Sheffield Arena on October 30 and tickets for his Ireland and UK shows go on sale on Friday.
