Baby joy for Corrie star

John Thomson has welcomed another daughter into the world, it has emerged.

The actor’s wife Samantha gave birth to a 7lb 7oz baby girl yesterday and the couple have decided to call their new arrival Sophia.

John – who already has seven-year-old daughter Olivia with Samantha – said: "All three of us - Sam, Olivia and I - are absolutely made up!"

John and Samantha underwent three IVF attempts to have little Sophia so her birth is extra special to them.

The former ‘Cold Feet’ star – who recently announced plans he is leaving ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’ – has previously battled drink and drug addiction but says becoming a dad to Olivia helped him.

"Olivia is a miracle," he said. "We simply don't know how we managed to conceive her. She is the most amazing gift and has been the making of me. I love being a dad more than anything and she is the only drug I will ever want or need.

"Sam and I are desperate for more children, even if it's through IVF. We are happier than ever before, but Olivia keeps asking for a brother and sister."
