Ireland's Richard Baneham was honoured at the Bafta awards last night, when Avatar won for special effects..

Animator Baneham trained in Ballyfermot Art College and previously worked as animation supervisor on 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' where he oversaw the animation of the character of Gollum.

Avatar was nominated for eight awards at last night's Baftas, but only came away with two - for special visual effects and production design.
