'Katyn' a compelling drama

Director: Andrzej Wajda

Cast: Artur Zmijewski, Andrzej Chyra

Director Wajda’s father was, apparently, directly involved in one of the most tragic horrors of WW2 when thousands of Poles – largely army officers but civilians as well – were slaughtered by the Russians in 1940.

He thus is ideally placed to bring us this harrowing – yet strangely uplifting in that those who suffered did so with such bravery and honour – story of a people caught between two forces, the Germans on the one side, the Soviets on the other.

The story here involves the fate of members of four Polish families and it makes for a compelling drama.
