Grant Bovey has become the second celebrity to be booted out of 'Hell’s Kitchen', as wife Anthea Turner sobbed on the floor.
Bovey was told by Marco Pierre White the kitchen was not big enough for two bosses. Before leaving, he asked the celebrity chef to take care of Turner.
Speaking after the show, the 48-year-old property consultant said: “I’m obviously disappointed... I thought things were going remarkably well.”
Bovey said he thought who went depended on the precise moment.
He said: “If he (White) had been asked to make that decision six hours earlier it might have been somebody else.
“For whatever reason, he decided my time had come.”
Bovey said there had been some “genuine friendships” made in the team.He said: “We never stopped laughing.”
Speaking about who he would like to win in the competition, he said: “Clearly I would like Anthea to do very well.”
Bovey’s exit follows 'Shameless' actor Jody Latham’s departure.
Latham became the first celebrity to get the boot after failing to redeem himself in the wake of a blazing row with other trainee chefs.
Last night, viewers saw White gather the celebrities round a table in the restaurant after service.
He asked each of them in turn why they thought they should stay.
Bovey said: “I would like to stay because I feel I’ve just moved into second gear and I feel I’ve got a lot more to give Marco and maybe get into fourth gear.”
White spoke to the two team leaders from that day’s mission which had involved the celebrities making sauces.
Ade Edmondson’s team comprised Turner and Linda Evans and on Niomi Daley’s team were Bovey and Danielle Bux.
White said: “Niomi you led your team to disaster, Ade you led your team to glory you did fantastically well today.
“Anthea and Linda they supported you, they didn’t question your decision... that’s why the three of you are going upstairs.”
Marco told Daley aka Ms Dynamite: “You were team leader today, something went wrong in there... do you know what let you down today?”
He added: “You allowed Grant to intimidate you or should I say you allowed yourself to be intimidated by Grant.”
Bovey said: “Marco I think the term is gentle persuasion.”
But White said: “Some people would call it manipulation.”
White told Bovey: “Grant it was tough tonight but you pushed on, you gave it your all, there’s not been a service where you tried so hard as you did tonight in my opinion.
“Your one failing is that you didn’t show me any humility round this table tonight.
“In service you preferred to sink than ask for help you are not a team player that’s what you’ve proven to me tonight.
“You are a leader, you’re a boss – that kitchen is not big enough for two bosses. I am the boss of Hell’s Kitchen.”
Turner sat on the kitchen floor in tears.
Bovey asked White: “Will you do me one small favour?... Will you please make sure that Anthea is taken care of?... Please take care of her for me.”
White replied: “You have my word as a man, if Anthea is struggling emotionally, then I will help her, I will look after her you have my word.”
The pair shook hands and hugged and Bovey made his way to the kitchen to hug and kiss Turner.
He walked out of the restaurant and waved goodbye and Turner was left crying on the kitchen floor.
'Hell’s Kitchen' is shown nightly at 9pm on ITV1.
