A Chinese newspaper has blasted Guns N' Roses for naming their new album 'Chinese Democracy' - accusing the rockers of belittling their nation.

The Global Times, which is published by China's ruling Communist party, ran an article condemning the long-awaited LP and suggested it was part of a western plot to "grasp and control the world using democracy as a pawn".

The record, which took 15 years to make and cost an alleged $15m (€11.5m), is not on sale in China but has been released in Britain and the US to mixed reviews.

Chinese fans can listen to some of the songs on the band's MySpace page but reports have suggested that the country's internet monitors are seeking to block access to the site and any others that feature the album.
