Britney granted extra visits with sons
Britney Spears will be allowed extra visits with her two young sons following an agreement with her former husband Kevin Federline, her lawyer said today.
The deal looked set to mark the beginning of the end of the two-year custody battle over their two young children – Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one.
Spears’ lawyer Laura Wasser told reporters outside the Los Angeles Superior Court that the agreement will give the troubled pop star more time with her young boys.
Federline, 30, will retain full custody, but 26-year-old Spears may get expanded rights by the end of the year, Ms Wasser said.
Neither Spears nor Federline attended today’s hearing, which was held behind closed doors, and a court spokesman said that no formal settlement has been filed.
But earlier, Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told US entertainment channel E! that a settlement had been reached which gave his client sole legal and physical custody, with Spears having visitation rights.
“The case has been settled,” he said.
“There is a fully executed deal memo. All the issues that would have been addressed at trial have been settled.
“I can’t speak to the exact terms of the deal, due to orders in place prior, will stay in place.”
He went on: “Kevin is absolutely delighted.
“Nobody could have anticipated the terms of events that have occurred... This was a two year journey that will be halted at a point that is good for these children.”
He added that Federline wanted to have Spears involved in co-parenting of the children and believed there needed to be structure.
