Apprentice winner 'devastated' at miscarriage

The Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry has told of her heartbreak at losing her baby.

Dewberry was three months pregnant with fellow contestant Syed Ahmed when she miscarried.

She told Hello! Magazine she was left ā€œdevastatedā€ by the loss.

ā€œWhen I lost the little one I didn’t want to do anything. While a child hadn’t been part of my plan, it had become my plan and part of my future, but suddenly it was all snatched away. It was a tough time,ā€ she said.

The 26-year-old suffered a miscarriage while in a work meeting.

ā€œI was devastated. I was really frightened and lonely and wanted my mum,ā€ she said.

ā€œIt hit me really hard. I didn’t want to go out or talk to anyone. I didn’t even want to have a shower or brush my hair.

ā€œIt was a hard time and I still get sad about it now. People know me from television as this career-driven person but at the end of the day I’m human. I’m a woman. I had my child inside me and I lost it.ā€

Dewberry has since split from Ahmed and said it was ā€œquestionableā€ whether their relationship could ever have worked out.

The former supermarket checkout girl from Hull announced last week that she had quit the Ā£100,000 (€148,100)-a-year job with Alan Sugar that was her prize for winning the show.

She had been running his computer disposal firm Xenon Green, but said: ā€œWhen I became pregnant I re-evaluated what I wanted from life and that tied in nicely with the Xenon Green project coming to a natural end.ā€

Asked how the tycoon reacted to news of her pregnancy, Dewberry admitted: ā€œHe was shocked, but that was a mutual reaction.ā€

She insisted Sugar had been nothing but supportive.

She has now set up her own freelance consultancy business, Michelle Dewberry Limited.
