Was Beatles reunion on the cards?
Twenty-five years ago this week, John Lennon was murdered by crazed gunman Mark David Chapman outside his home in New York City. But could the murdered Beatle have been planning a reunion with the Fab Four at the time of his death?
On New Year’s Day 1979, Paul McCartney inked a $10m (€8.5m) deal with CBS Records, marking a split from The Beatles’ old label, Capitol Records, according to the New York Post.
A clause in the contract stated that he was permitted to make any recording with “John Lennon, Richard Starkey and George Harrison recording together as The Beatles”.
Shortly before his death, Lennon also apparently suggested that the four would be back together again.
