Geldof slams EU at prize-giving
Rocker Bob Geldof accepted the Man For Peace Award at a ceremony in Rome yesterday, and took the opportunity to attack the European Union for failing to aid fair trade with Africa.
The Live 8 organiser was presented the prize by Rome mayor Walter Veltroni at the annual Nobel Peace Prize laureates meeting in the Italian capital, in recognition of his charity work.
He told those in attendance: "The EU must break the deadlock and as of today it has failed to do so.
"We live in a broken world which has never been healthier or wealthier, but some 500 kilometres south of here they die of want."
