Cabin crew protest over Hollywood's portrayal

Actress Jodie Foster’s latest film Flightplan has angered flight attendants in the United States.

It has outraged union chiefs who branded the blockbuster “irresponsible” for casting a flight crew member as a terrorist.

The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) and Transport Union Local 556 has called for its more than 80,000 members to boycott the film.

The movie depicts the cabin crew as unhelpful and uncaring. Foster’s character desperately searches for a lost child on board but is only helped by the captain and an air marshall.

Corey Caldwell, AFA spokeswoman said: “There was only one flight attendant who was a terrorist.

“The other ones were rude, condescending and portrayed as uncaring when Jodie Foster had a problem. There was eye-rolling, there was sarcasm, and that’s not right. That’s not accurate.”

The film topped the US box office chart when it opened last weekend.

A Disney spokesman told the LA Times: “There was absolutely no intention on the part of the studio or filmmakers to create anything but a great action thriller.

“We are confident the public will be able to discern the difference between fiction and the incredible job real-life flight attendants do on a daily basis.”
