Harvey regains consciousness
British pop star Brian Harvey has finally regained consciousness after a near-fatal accident last month, which saw him fall under the wheels of his own Mercedes car.
The former East 17 singer was recently moved to London's St George's Hospital - which specialises in chest and abdominal injuries - to receive treatment for a broken leg, a shattered pelvis, severe abdominal injuries and fluid-filled lungs.
Doctors took the 30-year-old off the medication keeping him in a controlled coma last week and were amazed by his high spirits when he woke up.
Harvey is still unable to talk, following surgery on his throat, but enjoyed reading the messages of good wishes from family, friends and fans.
A spokesman for the hospital says: "He continues to make slow progress in intensive care."
The troubled singer's manager Simon Harrison adds: "He spent all day smiling and reading through his messages and cards. He was in very good spirits."
Harvey, who is suffering from clinical depression, was rushed to hospital last month after he collapsed at his home following an alleged overdose of sleeping tablets.
The previous month he was treated in a rehabilitation clinic for depression, but denied press reports he had attempted suicide.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the mysterious accident.
