The wounded walk at dawn

Dawn of the Dead

Director: Zack Snyder

Cast: Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, Ty Burrell

Cert: 18.

A surprisingly decent re-make of the George Romero horror-fest of l978 in which America is threatened by a mass rising of the undead - no jokes, please, about President Bush - and a small group of survivors hide out in a shopping mall prior to attempting to get to the safety of a remote island.

It's all tongue-in-cheek and with more action than the original. It is also, intentionally or otherwise, very funny. It is a passable entertainment, if you know not to take it seriously.

The success of this film in the States, where it has overtaken Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ at the top of the Box Office, and of the recently re-released The Texas Chainsaw Massacre means that all the studios will be out with their spades digging up the dry bones of old horror stories. You have been warned!
