Once Upon a Time in Mexico tops US box office
Once Upon a Time in Mexico shot straight to the top of the North American box office at the weekend.
Starring Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp and Salma Hayek, the third film in a series from director Robert Rodriguez about a gun-slinging singer grossed an estimated €21.9m in its first three days.
That was more than three times the opening weekend takings of last week's top-grossing film, Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, which fell to No 4.
Once Upon a Time was followed in the box office pecking order by the weekend's two other major releases, Matchstick Men starring Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell, at No 2, and Cabin Fever at No 3.
Another Depp movie, Walt Disney Pictures' swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, slipped to No 5.
