Lopez sues former manager
Jennifer Lopez has launched a lawsuit against her former manager to demand he repays the £60,000 (€87,100) he earned while working for her.
The singer-actress, who fired Benny Medina last month after five years of service, claims he was not a licensed talent agent.
Her lawyer, Barry Hirsch, said: “Jennifer feels wronged and misrepresented and misled.”
A petition filed with California’s labour commission seeks the money Medina allegedly siphoned from Lopez’s earnings, plus 10% interest.
Lopez, 32, claims he inappropriately represented her while negotiating deals such as her upcoming film Shall We Dance? and a sponsorship agreement with L’Oreal cosmetics.
Medina said: “This is a real display of lack of gratitude and appreciation for what other people do in the building of a career, and at the same time it shows tremendous avarice and greed.”
The petition also seeks to invalidate all remaining partnerships between Medina and Lopez.
Medina and his Handprint Entertainment company were set to receive 10% of the star’s entertainment earnings, and 15% for her music work, according to the document.
