Shakin' Stevens on drink driving charge
Shakin' Stevens has been charged with drink driving after being arrested early on New Year's Day.
The singer-songwriter was stopped by police in his vehicle in Gloucestershire.
He was bailed by police to appear in court on January 16.
Stevens was arrested and remanded in custody before being charged under his real name of Michael Barratt.
Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman Kate Nelmes said: "At 2.45am on Tuesday, January 1, a 53-year-old man from Woking in Surrey was arrested in Clearwell High Street on suspicion of drink driving.
"He was later charged with drink-driving and will appear before Forest of Dean magistrates on Wednesday, January 16."
Stevens had 38 hit singles in the '80s and early '90s, including four UK number ones, and recorded a dozen hit albums.
His best-known tracks include This Ole House and Green Door.
Stevens was born in Cardiff, but now lives in Woking.
