Independence Day: Resurgence trailer reveals what happened to Will Smith's character

Independence Day: Resurgence is the answer to those cries.

20th Century Fox have released a second trailer to the hotly anticipated continuation from the original story.

Reprising their roles in Resurgence are Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, and Bill Pullman as David Levinson, his father Julius, and former US President Thomas J. Whitmore respectively.

They are joined by new comers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward.

Strap yourself in because this is a whopper!

The trailer reveals that Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) died while piloting a prototype fighter jet which used pieces of the alien technology.

Don't worry though, it still seems to have all the destruction and characters that you loved from the first film.
