A question of taste: Kieran Quinn
56: The Story of the Bradford Fire.
Inside Out.
Jim Doherty/Louis Stewart in JJ Smyths, Dublin. Two masters, closer to the end than the beginning, but still knocking craic out of each other and the music of a Sunday afternoon.
I don’t use Spotify — not out of any moral objections — just never got round to it! I buy from iTunes and listen mainly to Lyric and RTÉ 1 — I would always buy a CD when I enjoy a gig too.
Moxie’s debut album, Planted. Amazing live band too.
I think Ray Houghton’s goal in Stuttgart in 1988 could be considered a work of art?!
Paul Simon Graceland 25-year reunion show in the O2, Dublin — summer 2012.
Mainly live sport — the latter stages of any big soccer, GAA or rugby tournament. Box-set wise, its hard to beat The Sopranos and The Wire — even on a third or fourth viewing! Charlie and Lola too.
Definitely more of a podcast man — big Second Captains fan. On radio I always enjoy Blue of the Night on Lyric and Late Date on RTÉ One. I grew up listening to crackly soccer match commentaries on BBC Radio 5 Live.
As a piano player, for me, Oscar Peterson stands head and shoulders above the rest. As a composer, it has to be Ennio Morricone. In terms of musicians that I actually know, have positively affected my career, and would look up to, it’s very hard to pick between Seamie O’Dowd and Eddie Lee.
Getting to have dessert with Paul McGrath, Kevin Sheedy, Mick McCarthy, and the entire Ireland soccer squad in a hotel outside Rome when I was 10.
Hmmm… the suit for my wedding I guess.
Bose portable Bluetooth speakers — indispensable when it comes to listening/teaching/rehearsing. Thanks Mum!
Going to go local here — after a tough recession in Sligo, the local Tidy Towns organisation did an amazing job in getting our town looking well again for the All-Ireland Fleadh the last two years.
In 3rd class, every child in the country gets to pick a musical instrument, and learn it for free for 4 years — massive positive knock-on effects for all concerned.
