George Bush turned up to jury duty just like the rest of us

"No man is above the law and no man is below it: nor do we ask any man’s permission when we ask him to obey it."

George Bush turned up to jury duty just like the rest of us

So said US President Teddy Roosevelt. Spare a thought, so, for former US President George W Bush, who was summoned for jury duty - and turned up.

BushJuror number 43 arrived in a Dallas court room for jury selection like any good citizen, prepared to sit around for several hours while the process went on.

Unfortunately, the former commander-in-chief was unable to serve on this occasion, as the jury was filled by other members before his turn to enter the courtroom for consideration.

It’s unknown if the former presidentanonymous juror 43 had an excuse prepared for the judge in advance.

The Dallas Morning News reports another potential juror, Joel Ehambe, sat in front of the president and turned around to spot him.

"I turned around and he was seated right behind me and I said, "I think I know that guy," he told the newspaper.

"Then the judge introduced him and said it was an honour to have the former president of the United States in the court."

Suddenly, hopes that "I’m super busy at work" will get us out of jury duty seem less likely. If former world leaders are expected to perform their civic duty, can’t we all?
