Groundhog bites mayor in the middle of interview

Every February 2nd, the furry little rodents known as groundhogs are wheeled out in communities across the US for the holiday known as Groundhog Day.

Groundhog bites mayor in the middle of interview

The legend goes that if it is cloudy when a groundhog comes out of its burrow on this day, then spring will come early. However, if it is sunny, the groundhog will see its shadow, run back into its burrow - and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

And it seems that this particular groundhog may have woken up on the wrong side of his burrow altogether.

At a Groundhog Day celebration in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on Monday, Jimmy - the town's official groundhog - bit Mayor Jonathan Freund's ear in the middle of a TV interview.

And, while it looked quite painful, the mayor just continued on.

Let's watch that again. And again. And again.

Bad groundhog.
