Horse riders across Ireland are being encouraged to take part in the Agria Horse Ride 2026 to support My Lovely Horse animal rescue in its work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses.

Agria, an Irish specialist pet insurer, has partnered with My Lovely Horse for the Agria Horse Ride 2026, a month-long countrywide initiative that will see €5 donated to the charity for every ride registered.

The Agria Horse Ride encourages riders of all abilities to get in the saddle in support of My Lovely Horse. From solo hacks and family rides to riding club outings and team challenges, participants can take part in whatever way works best for them and their horse.

Olympic event rider and Agria ambassador Sarah Ennis is supporting this year’s Agria Horse Ride and encouraging Ireland’s equestrian community to get involved.

Ms Ennis said: “I’ve spent most of my life around horses and they have given me so much, both personally and professionally. The Agria Horse Ride is a lovely opportunity for riders to give something back by doing something we already enjoy — getting out in the saddle.”

“You don’t have to be a competitive rider or cover a huge distance. Whether it’s a short hack or a day out with your riding club, it all counts. I’d encourage riders across Ireland to register, get involved this September and help us support horses that really need it.”

Country manager at Agria Ireland Fiona Charles said: “At Agria, we're a company of animal lovers, and animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. We’re incredibly proud to support My Lovely Horse Rescue through this year’s Agria Horse Ride and help make a real difference to animals in need across Ireland.

“The team at My Lovely Horse Rescue does incredible work, and we are delighted to support their efforts to protect the country’s animals and increase public awareness of animal welfare issues.

Martina Kenny, co-founder of My Lovely Horse, said: “We see first-hand the reality for horses and other animals that have been abandoned, neglected or left in terrible conditions across Ireland.

Rescuing them is only the beginning. Veterinary treatment, medication, feed, farrier care and rehabilitation all cost money, and our annual running costs are up to €2m this year.

“Donations like this have a huge impact on the work we do every day, helping us provide the highest standard of care for the animals who rely on us. We’re delighted that the Agria Horse Ride is giving Ireland’s equestrian community a way to get involved and help us continue that work.

“People often tell us we’re doing incredible work, but the truth is we’d love to become unnecessary. Horses continue to need our help across the country. Our ambition is to reach a point where no horse needs rescuing.”

The Agria Horse Ride is open to horse owners and riders across Ireland, including riding clubs, Pony Club members and families. Participants are encouraged to share their rides and help spread the word throughout September.
