Brace of quality farms west of Cork City drawing strong attention

Clonakilty-based auctioneers Hodnett Forde Property Services have two farms on their books at the moment that showcase some of the finest acres west of Cork City — an area of huge demand in recent years from a burgeoning agricultural sector.
At Lisnagat, near Newcestown, a 104-acre holding cuts a rare presence for its size and quality. The property is partly in grass and partly in tillage in a convenient location 9km from Bandon.
“This is a probate sale,” says selling agent Ernest Forde. “It’s a good-sized block of land and it’s close to Bandon.
"It’s mainly of good quality, although there’s a small section (15 acres) where work needs to be done but it can be made right… It’s in a good farming area.”
The south-facing lands are divided into a number of easily worked divisions, the agent adds, with well-maintained hedgerows offering good shelter. There are streams on both the western and eastern boundaries.
The owners are open to selling the farm in lots, along the lines of these suggested lots: Lot A (47.2 acres); Lot B (57.1 acres); Lot C (the entire).
“There have already been a few enquiries,” says Ernest. “There should be a number of neighbouring farmers interested in the holding.”
With Cork only a 30-minute commute, there should be no shortage of interest over the coming weeks and the price expectation is €15,000 to €17,000/acre.
Closer still to Cork City is a 24-acre farm that the same agents are selling at Corran, Waterfall. This time, the price expectation is a little higher — €15,000 to €20,000/acre.
The property is 12km west of Cork City centre and 9km from Ballincollig and is all in fine pasture, laid out in one block without any waste.
“The holding is suitable for any type of farming enterprise and should be of interest to purchasers seeking a hobby farm or an extension to an existing farm enterprise,” says Ernest.
The lands are level and laid out in one block and the agents confirm that it is already under offer.
