€12-14,000 per acre expected for 25 Bandon acres

Located 5km south of the large market town of Bandon in West Cork, a 25-acre non-residential farm should attract a good deal of interest and a strong price.
Land in this part of the world is characterised by top quality, and an intensive level of farming, dominated in the main by the dairying sector.
A parcel such as this one, therefore, will most certainly be sought after by any number of progressive farmers eager to expand their holdings.
Located in the townland of Snugville, the property contains a number of outbuildings, and has just come on the market with Clonakilty-based auctioneers Hodnett Forde Property Services.
According to selling agent Ernest Forde, this modest holding was originally part of a larger farm that once belonged to one of the best known, progressive farmers in Munster during its heyday in the 1960s.
Since then, however, the property has lost none of its quality.
“It was owned by a master-farmer back in the day,” says Ernest. “Dick Brien originally owned it, he was a very well-known farmer in the Bandon area, ahead of his time.
“This is a holding with top quality land, the best of land. It’s currently laid out in one field but it would lend itself to sub-division, and can be sold in up to three lots.”
There is a good deal of public road frontage going with the land. The lots suggested are: Lot A of 9.5 acres; Lot B with 14.5 acres of land; Lot C contains the outbuildings on 0.85 acres. The vendor’s preference would be to sell as one unit, but everything depends on how demand evolves.
The current owner is farming the property, and is selling this parcel only because he’s investing elsewhere.
The selling agents say that there have already been a number of enquiries on the holding.
The price expectation is between €12,000 and €14,000 per acre, which represents the going rate for top quality land in this area.
