Farmers welcome new simplified BDGP rules
A simplification of some of the requirements of the Beef Data and Genomics Programme, in relation to the eligibility of stock bulls, has been welcomed by the Irish Farmers’ Association.
Agriculture Minister Michael Creed, who announced the move, said officials from his department have been working closely with their counterparts in the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation on this issue.
“I feel this pragmatic approach to what is a key requirement should lead to as many participants as possible receiving their full payment in 2019, under this important programme.
“They have identified a number of herds that are currently not meeting this requirement and will be contacting them in the coming days to advise them of their obligations under the programme,” said Mr Creed.
IFA Livestock Committee chairman, Angus Woods, has described the move as helpful and in line with some of the requests it had put forward.
Flexibility by the department, regarding implementation and interpretation of the scheme at farm level, is key to providing the maximum opportunity for farmers to meet the requirements, he said.
