In 2017, a total of 32,990 acres of farmland sold in Ireland, for €161.1m, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The average price was €4,883 per acre; the average transaction size was 20.7 acres.

Half of the transactions were above €6,626 per acre, half were below. This land sold is 0.3% of the available agricultural land in Ireland. It is 2.9% less than the volume sold in 2016.

Arable land made up 3.65% of the land sold, however, it accounted for 7.58% of the total value of land sold.

The average price in 2017 was €10,148 per acre for arable land and €4,683 for permanent grassland. The median (middle) price was €10,507 for arable land and €6,390 for permanent grassland.

There was a notable average price increase in the SouthWest, from €6,048 in 2016 to €8,197 per acre in 2017.

The highest value of agricultural land sold was in the South-West region, at €29.29m in 2017. The South-East had the lowest value of land sold, at €15.40.

The Midlands had the highest average price per acre for arable land, at €12,403. The South-East had the highest price per acre of permanent grassland, €8,997 .

The lowest price per acre for arable land was in the South-West, €10,297. The lowest price per acre for permanent grassland was in the Border region, €2,783.
