Some rural households to get first clean piped water
Grant supports of €20 million in 2018 for rural water services have been announced by Eoghan Murphy, the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government.
It includes €4.33m for water treatment improvements associated with environmental and public health compliance; €5.6m for enhancement of group water schemes; €1.57m for transition of group water schemes to the public sector; and €3.5m for funding private wells and septic tanks. The funding supports new schemes to enable rural households to have a supply of good quality piped water for the first time, said Minister Murphy. Funding is also being provided towards group sewerage schemes.
Minister Murphy said capital funding for the Rural Water Programme will rise by €5m to €25m in 2019.
The 2018 grant allocations include €471,000 in Clare, €476,853 in Cork, €261,000 in Kerry, €763,000 in Limerick, €652,000 in Tipperary, and €90,000 in Waterford.
