Irish among the few who are buying more tractors
Up to October, total Irish registrations for the year of new tractors were 1,756 units, a small increase of 2% year-on-year.
This contrasted with the much larger UK market, where registrations to the end of July were down 11% year-on-year. at 6,324 units.
And Ireland’s 2% increase compares with a 6% decline in sales of tractors across Europe in the first nine months of this year.
Sales of tractors have declined worldwide, down 29% in China, 17% in Brazil, 19% in Russia, and 24% in Japan.
India and China are the largest tractor market with sales of 600,000 and 400,000 tractors, respectively.
Along with Ireland, the few countries to report increasing tractor sales include India (up 17%), Turkey (up 7%) and the USA (up 3%).
Annual sales are at 200,000 in the USA, and 160,000 in Europe.
These tractor market figures were presented at the recent EIMA International Agricultural Exhibition in Bologna, Italy.
EIMA organizer FederUnacoma’s survey also showed a 22% slump in world sales for tractors with power exceeding 100 horse power this year.
The global tractor market slump is expected to continue in 2017, with recovery not expected until 2018.
