ICA up-cycling competition breaths new life into old clothes and toys
Wexford Federation PRO Joe Whitmore, who attended the AGM, reports that in the same [up-cycling] competition, two highly commended places were awarded to a pair of earrings made from a Coca Cola can and a decorated peat moss scoop made from a Domestos bottle. The sweatshirt teddy won the top prize.
National competitions secretary Breda Banville reported on the activities of her committee.
She told the 280 members who attended the AGM that the committee competition of four hen egg cosies was widely contested with 69 entries in many different mediums and she noted that the standard in the craft, art and photography sections was very high.
Meanwhile, the final competition of the year will take place at the garden party in An Grianán on July 8 – make a piece of jewellery (e.g. necklace, bracket, earrings).
No kits are allowed.
Entry fee is €5 and entries must be submitted by 3pm.
The national AGM was held in Athlone’s Sheraton Hotel, hosted by Westmeath Mayor Cllr Tom Farrell.
He held a civic reception at Atholone Library the previous evening ad all were privy to a tour of the Council chambers.
