Bord Iascaigh Mhara to form partnership with Nofima
The Norwegian Institute of Food, Fishery and Aquaculture, Nofima will help BIM to drive innovation in the seafood sector.
BIM says Nofima’s valuable insight and expertise in innovation, technology transfer and sustainability will be of significant benefit to the seafood sector as it seeks to value to its seafood.
BIM’s goal is to achieve the target of reducing the level of seafood sold in commodity form from 70% to below 50%, as set out in the Food Wise 2025 report developed through an industry-wide consultation.
In the first step towards developing a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies, BIM recently welcomed Nofima representatives to Ireland.
BIM organised an itinerary of informative events for the Nofima delegation — including a visit to Teagasc Food Research Centre in Moorepark, Co Cork, to discuss the development of a seafood research and development programme.
The Nofima delegates also visited BIM’s Seafood Development Centre in Clonakilty, West Cork, where they were given an insight into the process and expertise available in the centre assisting seafood companies to go from concept development to scale to final commercialisation, all underpinned by market insight, NPD and technology transfer services.
BIM is planning a reciprocal visit to Nofima in Norway in September.
