Will be QA payment for out-of-spec cattle, but not the 12c/kg

Beef farmers have been assured by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney that some level of compensation will be in place from the beginning of 2015 for out-of-spec animals from Quality Assured farms, which currently do not qualify for any QA bonus.

At the ICMSA annual general meeting in Limerick, he said that the Beef Forum is working to bring about a better pricing structure for beef animals at factories.

“We are working to bring about a situation that when farmers take animals into the factory they will be able to predict with some accuracy what they will be paid. Likewise, for the Quality Assurance Scheme, we have agreed that there will be some recognition in price for animals coming from QA farms which are not in-spec, with effect from January 1. It is not going to be 12 cents per kg, but it will be some recognition,” he said.
