Gavin Grace of Clare FM received the “Bull” bronze trophy and cash prize from Miriam Atkins, chairman of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists, at a ceremony in Castleknock Hotel, Dublin.

From a huge number of entries covering TV, radio, press, online, technical, targeted, and photographic categories, Clare FM was adjudged the winner for the service it provided across its news, current affairs, and farming programmes. “It was a perfect example of a local media organisation taking on a very important community service role at a time of national crisis,” said judging panel chairman Martin Heraghty.

Organised by the Guild of Agricultural Journalists, in association with AIB, the awards are presented every two years for work of outstanding merit in eight categories. The overall winner is chosen from the category winners.

Category awards were won by The Science Squad, New Decade TV; Ella McSweeney, The Irish Times; Damien McCarney, The Anglo Celt; John Noonan, Teagasc, Today’s Farm; Peter Young, Pat O’Keeffe and Valerie O’Sullivan, Irish Farmers’ Journal.

The judging panel included: Mr Heraghty, (formerly of the Department Of Agriculture), Helen Brophy, (UCD Smurfit Business School), Michael Fisher, (ex-RTÉ Belfast), Joe O’Brien, (ex-RTÉ agricultural correspondent), and Ray Ryan of the Irish Examiner.
