And perhaps this latest farm sale near Gneeveguilla will draw some musicians back into an area, with a wood-side getaway for local sessions.

This little 47-acre farmstead at Mausrour, is due up for auction at the end of this month, on March 26, and it carries a pre-auction price guide in the region of €200,000, but can also be sold in lots.

The residential property, which includes a solid, three-bed farmhouse, is planted for the most part with trees, bringing a forestry premium income of more than €7,000 per annum available to farmer-buyers, with eight years of premia remaining.

The remaining ten acres is in pasture and is of mixed quality, says selling agent Tom Spillane, of Tom Spillane and Co, who intends to sell the farm in lots, or in the entire, depending on how the auction goes.

The house is in need of renovation, but looks like it might respond to some attention, and the yard includes some picturesque stone outhouses.

Ten acres surround the house, and the remainder, some 37 acres, is in forestry, of which 27 acres is Sitka spruce and the rest ash.

The property is just two miles from Gneeveguilla village, and about 13 miles from Killarney.
