And while the residential property market is now transparent in terms of sale time and price, the same cannot be said of the agricultural property market.

This month has been slow sales-wise in the land market (blame the weather), but deals done close to Christmas are now crossing the line; and one in particular is a big sale, located at Dooneens, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
Flagged as a tip top tillage farm when it went to market in early autumn of last year, there was strong interest in the property at the time.
And no wonder — offering 115 acres of clean land, it was its second time on the market, (because of an earlier glitch) and the conviction to sell was obvious to potential buyers.
And it came with a standing offer of €1.5m, which it’s believed it is now sold for — the equivalent of just over €13,000 per acre, a very healthy result for selling agent, Christy Buckley.
The property included a picturesque period residence in great condition and a farm-yard covering over 24,000 square feet — which was a major attraction.
All in one block and used for drystock and tillage, this was one of the larger sales in a year which saw some hectic transactional activity towards year’s end.
